MECKLENBURG COUNTY, NC - In the last several days, Sheriff Garry McFadden (D) has released two illegal aliens, both charged with sexually assaulting children, in less than 48 hours.
-On June 12 at 10:27 p.m., Jose Antonio Santiago, 50, was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on a count of indecent liberties with a child, and was released on June 14 at 11:42 a.m. after paying $2,500 (10 percent of his bond) to a bail bonding service. Of course, the ICE hold was ignored and Santiago is back on the streets to do as he pleases.
-On June 13 at 8:17 p.m., Guillermo Eduardo Alvarez, 21, was booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on a count of statutory sex offense with a child (Victim Under 15), and was released on June 14 at 3:01 a.m. after paying 10 percent of his bond to a bail-bonding service. Again, the requested ICE hold was ignored.
Since taking office, Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden has made it official policy, not to cooperate with U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), by not allowing MCSO deputies to inquire into any suspect’s immigration status, nor will the sheriff honor ICE detainers.
So, accused rapists, child molesters, drunk drivers, etc., in this country illegally are being released back onto the streets of Mecklenburg County, if they make bail. Sheriff McFadden also refuses to release any information on the number of illegal aliens who actually show up for their court dates after being released, but the number is said to be less than 10 percent, according to court insiders.
Of course, the more serious the nature of the charge, the less likely prosecutors are to ever see the suspect again, at least until he or she commits another crime.
McFadden has even released at least one illegal alien homicide suspect.
