Sanctuary County Official Killed By Illegal Alien In DUI Crash

WESTFIELD, IL - On October 24, A van driven by Edwin Pacheco-Meza, 34, crossed the center line into oncoming traffic and crashed head-on into a pickup truck with four people inside. 

Those inside the truck were Michael Clayton, 71, and his wife, Gail Clayton, 66, who were pronounced dead at the scene. Another 72-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the van, Pacheco-Meza, is in the country illegally from Honduras and the passenger in the car, Juan Morales-Martinez, is an 18-year-old illegal alien from Guatemala, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

At the time of his death, Michael Clayton was in his second term as a Coles County Board member representing District 2. 

Coles County is one of 96 counties in Illinois identified by DHS as a ‘sanctuary county,’ for illegal aliens. 

Pacheco-Meza has been charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence and reckless homicide. Morales-Martinez has been charged with drug possession, open container of alcohol and a weapons offense. Both were booked into the Clark County Jail on ICE detainers, but the detainers were ignored and both criminal aliens were released.

ICE agents waited outside the jail and were able to take Morales-Martinez into custody on October 27. 

In a press release, DHS stated:

Pacheco-Meza entered the country illegally at an unknown date and time.

Morales-Martinez entered the U.S. illegally in December of 2023 and was RELEASED by the Biden administration into our country.

Dead Americans are simply the inevitable result of sanctuary policies. Period.
