On March 12, 2020, Lazcano-Salazar was arrested for shoplifting as well as on a probation violation in Buncombe County. He was given bond and released.
And, with his latest arrest, despite the serious nature of his charges, his illegal status in this country and the obvious flight risk he poses, since he was arrested in a so-called 'sanctuary county,' no ICE hold will be honored for this repeat offender.
*Upon taking office in 2019, Buncombe County Sheriff Quentin Miller announced that his office would no longer cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and would stop honoring ICE detainers in his county's jail.
The policy immediately transformed Buncombe County into a 'sanctuary' for criminal aliens, and has been met with harsh criticism from the Trump administration, as Sheriff Miller has allowed multiple illegal aliens charged with child sex crimes to go free on bail.
