DURHAM, NC - On January 3, Elmer Jose Mejia Guardado, 22, was taken into custody, following a string of armed robberies, which occurred over three North Carolina counties (Durham, Orange and Wake).
Following media coverage of the illegal alien's arrest, Durham County sheriff's investigators received a report that the suspect had also raped a young girl. The complaint came from the victim's parent, according to a Durham County Sheriff's Office press release.
On April 7, following an investigation, Guardado was also charged with the girl's rape.
Guardado has been charged with 11 counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, seven counts of conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and one count of felony statutory rape of a child.
He is currently being held in the Durham County Detention Center on $1,445,000 bond.
