DOTHAN, AL - Last month, Emenike Okachi Downey, 39, pleaded guilty to second-degree sodomy (Victim Under 17), in exchange for the state dropping several other very serious charges against him.
In August 2019, Downey was charged with two counts of first-degree rape, possession of child porn, production of child porn with a minor, in addition to the sodomy charge.
The Jamaica Observer reported:
The convict went to the United States illegally from Jamaica...The Jamaican is the second illegal immigrant to be convicted in Houston county on sex crimes in recent weeks, according to the report.
Downey was recently sentenced to 20 years in prison. He has an ICE detainer and is set to be deported upon completion of his sentence.
*Interestingly enough, every news outlet in Jamaica that covered this story reported the fact that Downey was in the United States illegally, while The Dothan Eagle, for example, referred to the convicted sex offender as “a Cottonwood man.”
