GROVETOWN, GA - On Wednesday, police arrested Jorge Melara, 49, after he reportedly molested a 9-year-old girl, whose family he has been living with in the 200 block of 5th Avenue.
The Augusta Press reported:
Police say the suspect is the uncle to the victim’s mother’s fiancé. The mother found out Tuesday night that Melara had been touching her daughter whenever she was gone, police said. She found out about the molestation when her daughter came crying into her room Tuesday night and said her “Uncle Jorge” had touched her boobs and butt, police said.
He has admitted to touching the victim, but defended himself by claiming that Honduran people are “very touchy and friendly,” according to police.
During their investigation, detectives discovered child pornography on Melara’s phone.
Melara has been charged with child molestation, and is currently being held at the Columbia County Jail on an ICE detainer.
*Melara has been deported back to Honduras nine times, and returned to Georgia a little over a year ago.
The investigation has turned up evidence that the illegal alien has also molested children in his home country.
