LEESBURG, VA - On Tuesday, an eight-month old girl died in a local hospital after she was found unresponsive with a charging cord wrapped tightly around her neck.

On September 17, police were called to a residence in Hancock Place where they found the mortally wounded baby, and began a pursuit of her brother, Alvaro Mejia-Ayala, 22. He fled the scene after reportedly strangling his infant sister.

Mejia-Ayala was arrested on Meadows Lane about five hours later.

The illegal alien was allowed in under the Biden administration in 2016 and his status hearing was simply dismissed by the Biden administration in October 2024, “allowing him to indefinitely remain in the U.S. illegally,” according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Mejia-Ayala was arrested in Loudoun County (Va.) in 2024 for reckless driving, but was released before notifying ICE.

In a press release, ICE stated:

What kind of sick monster strangles a defenseless, innocent baby girl with a charging cord? This barbarism has no place in the U.S., said Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. ICE lodged an immigration detainer to ensure this heinous criminal is not released on U.S. streets. President Trump and Secretary Noem have been clear: criminal illegal aliens are not welcome in the United States. We pray for this precious baby.

Mejia-Ayala has been charged with murder and is being held at the Loudoun County Detention Center on an ICE detainer.
