SANTA ROSA, CA - On Wednesday, Gerardo Mendoza, 47, was sentenced to prison by Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Robert LaForge after he pleaded no contest to manslaughter in the brutal death of his daughter.
On November 20, 2016, Mendoza took his 4-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son to St. John the Baptist Church in Healdsburg.
Claiming both children were possessed, he put his daughter, Maria, into a foot-deep baptismal pool, where she was submerged, according to court documents.
The illegal alien then brought the girl’s lifeless body to a police station, where he stood, naked, in the parking lot, shouting in Spanish.
At the time he drowned his daughter, Mendoza had been on a three-day methamphetamine binge.
Mendoza, who was originally charged with murder, was sentenced to 11 years in prison, as part of his plea agreement.
*Since California is a 'sanctuary state,' there are no plans to place Mendoza into deportation proceedings upon completion of his sentence.
