SMITHFIELD, NC – In the early morning hours of October 10, police were called to a construction site in response to a disturbance coming from a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, officers observed a naked man exit a pick up truck and run from the scene.
Police also found a 14-year-old girl inside the truck. The girl was questioned and returned to her home.
Several hours later, Manuel Espinoza Quirio, 26, was taken into custody without incident.
Quirio has been charged with statutory rape and is currently being held at the Johnston County Jail on a $500,000 bond, as well as an ICE detainer.
