DUI: Illegal Alien Charged With Hit-And-Run, Police Officer Left In Critical Condition

DULUTH, GA – On August 7, police arrested Eduardo Olivares Gutierrez, 30, after he reportedly ran a red light and crashed into a police cruiser, driven by Officer Ricky Porter.

According to officials, around 4 a.m. the Duluth officer was traveling in the northbound lane on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in a patrol car. As the officer was going through a green light at the intersection of Abbotts Bridge Road, his vehicle was hit by a Dodge Ram.

Gutierrez jumped out of his vehicle and fled the scene on foot, according to police.


He was apprehended a short time later, near the scene of the crash.


Officer Porter, a 12-year veteran of the Duluth Police Department, had to be cut from the wreckage of his vehicle, due to the severity of the impact.


He remains in critical, but stable condition at this time in a local hospital.


Gutierrez has been charged DUI, reckless driving, serious injury by vehicle, hit and run—resulting in serious injury, failure to obey a traffic control device, and driving without a license. He is currently being held a the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
