In July 2021, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) Police Department announced that child sexual assaults inside the city of Charlotte were up an astounding 93 percent, in cases where the victims are 15 years or younger.
“The overall statistics show sexual assaults jumped 42 percent in the first six months of this year, but the numbers among juveniles — victims 15 years old and younger — are even more alarming,” WSOC reported.
Since taking office, Mecklenburg County Sheriff Garry McFadden has made it official policy, not to cooperate with U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), by not allowing MCSO deputies to inquire into any suspect’s immigration status, nor will the sheriff honor ICE detainers.
So, accused rapists, child molesters, drunk drivers, etc., in this country illegally are being released back onto the streets of Mecklenburg County, if they make bail. Sheriff McFadden also refuses to release any information on the number of illegal aliens who actually show up for their court dates after being released, but the number is said to be less than 10 percent, according to court insiders.
Of course, the more serious the nature of the charge, the less likely prosecutors are to ever see the suspect again, at least until he or she commits another crime.
McFadden has even released at least one illegal alien homicide suspect.
It is obvious that either Sheriff McFadden does not take his oath of office seriously, or simply does not understand the words that left his mouth on December 4, 2018.
On October 29, 2015, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory signed into law House Bill 318, known as the Protect North Carolina Workers Act, which among other things, banned cities and counties across the state from enacting so-called “sanctuary policies” to shield illegal aliens from deportation, after being apprehended for other crimes.
At the signing ceremony, Gov. McCrory said:
Today, North Carolina is standing up for the rule of law, which is central to North Carolina values and our country’s values. Public safety officials must have the flexibility and tools to investigate crimes and sanctuary city policies that deprive law enforcement of those tools.
Though the law banning ‘sanctuary’ policies throughout the state still stands, his successor, Governor Roy Cooper, has chosen not to enforce it, and has basically given a ‘wink and a nod’ to several sheriffs throughout the Tarheel state, who have chosen to turn their counties into havens for criminal aliens.
*McFadden is up for reelection this year, but the race will actually be decided on May 17, the day of the Democratic primary. Including McFadden, there are three candidates vying for sheriff of Mecklenburg County, but no Republican candidates are running this year.
The Fraternal Order of Police has endorsed Aujiena “Gina” Hicks, a former deputy who served for 18 years at the Mecklenburg County Jail as a supervisor.
The other candidate, Marquis Robinson, is a retired Mecklenburg County deputy, who promises that if elected, he will form a Human Trafficking Unit, as sex trafficking has become a tremendous problem thanks to Sheriff McFadden’s ‘sanctuary policy’ toward criminal aliens.
