African 'Refugee' Charged With Murder In North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, ND - On Sunday, police arrested Ahmed Mohamed Abdullahi, 26, after he reportedly shot a woman to death inside an apartment in the 1300 block of 8th Avenue North.

Around 1:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a suspicious man in the area, and knocked on the apartment door, where they spoke with the victim. As they walked away, they heard arguing coming from inside the apartment.

The victim has been identified as 28-year-old Megan Gustafson.

Valley News Live reported:

Court documents say officers saw the door open, Gustafson was standing in the doorway with her back toward the street and Abdullahi was facing her. Officers heard a single gunshot, heard Gustafson scream, and then saw her run into the lawn and fall to the ground.

Abullahi then emerged with a handgun, and officers quickly took him into custody, according to a police report.

Gustafson was shot once in the neck. She was transported to Altru Hospital, where she was soon pronounced dead.

Abdullahi has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and theft of property. He is currently being held at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center without bond.

*The gun used to kill Gustafson was actually reported stolen last year. In March 2021, Abdullahi was convicted of felony terrorizing.

Abdullahi came to this country as a ‘refugee’ from Somalia.
