Report: Burmese Immigrant Responsible For Mass Shooting In Tennessee

COLLIERVILLE, TN - On Thursday, a mass shooting took place at the Kroger on New Byhalia Road. One person was killed and 14 others were wounded, several of those victims are still in critical condition at local hospitals.


A Kroger employee, 70-year-old Olivia King was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The widow, who attended daily mass at Catholic Church of the Incarnation was described by Collierville Vice-Mayor Maureen Fraser as “Kind, generous, caring, selfless...Everyone needs to be more like Olivia.”


Mrs. King leaves behind three sons and several grandchildren.


The shooter has been identified as Uk Thang, 29. He apparently worked at the grocery store for a third-party vendor, as a sushi chef.



Aung Kyawlengle, a family friend, spoke with a reporter outside what he said is the suspect's parent's home in Antioch, a suburb outside Nashville.
He said the family is Burmese. Burma is a country in southeast Asia and is officially called Myanmar.

Thang was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, at the back of the store.


Police have yet to report a motive for the mass shooting.
