New 'Sanctuary Sheriff' Releases Illegal Alien Charged In Fatal DUI

Updated: Mar 12, 2023

HOLLY SPRINGS, NC - On Saturday, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol arrested Elthon Mendoza-Cervante, 29, after he reportedly drove his SUV over the center line and hit another vehicle head-on.

The driver of the other vehicle, 65-year-old Richard Williams, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The crash took place near the intersection of Piney Grove Wilbon Road and Rouse Road.

Mendoza-Cervante was charged with DWI and felony death by vehicle, and was booked into the Wake County Jail on $50,000 bail.

On Monday, despite being in the country illegally, Mendoza-Cervante was released after coming up with 10 percent of his bond ($5,000) to pay to a bail-bonding service.

Wake County’s new sheriff, Willie Rowe, is continuing the policies of his predecessor and keeping Wake a ‘sanctuary county,’ by refusing all detainer requests from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.
