BIRMINGHAM, AL - On March 24, Antonio Zapata-Chairez, 43, pleaded guilty in federal court to one count of possession of child pornography, as well as to one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
In August 2019, a search warrant executed at Zapata-Chairez’s Birmingham residence as a result of an investigation into the online distribution of child pornography.
In a press release, the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated:
The FBI contacted HSI concerning Zapata-Chairez’s status in the United States and learned that he was a foreign national and citizen of Mexico. Additionally, after a forensic examination of the digital devices and an analysis of Zapata-Chairez’s online account, images and videos of child pornography were located.
Two cell phones, a laptop and a Walther P22 semi-auto .22 caliber handgun were seized from the residence.
Zapata-Chairez is yet to be sentenced.
