Human Smuggler Charged With Killing Mother And Daughter In Texas

MISSION, TX - On December 11, police arrested Esteban Cantu Jr., 18, after he reportedly crashed his SUV into a Honda at the intersection of West Mile 2 and Trosper Road. The two women in the sedan were killed upon impact.

The victims have been identified as 59-year-old Carmen Huerta Sosa and her 22-year-old daughter Viridiana Lloyd, both residents of Mission

At the time the fatal crash occurred, Cantu was transporting illegal aliens in his vehicle, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.

Fox News reported:

Cantu ran a stop sign Saturday while fleeing from Border Patrol agents and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and T-boned Sosa’s car, police said.
Police said six illegal immigrants were in his vehicle. One of the immigrants flew through the windshield upon impact but survived. Cantu and the immigrants were transported to an area hospital, police said.

Cantu was charged with two counts of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, felony evading and human smuggling. After being released from the hospital, he was booked into the Hidalgo County Jail on $2 million bail.
