LA MARQUE, TX - On February 2, the U.S. Marshals Service’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force arrested Carlos Heriberto Lara-Balcazar, 34. He was tracked down to a residence in Houston.
On January 31, the lifeless body of 57-year-old Maria Rios was discovered inside a home under construction in a new subdivision east of Delaney Road.
Rios, a grandmother, was working for the builder as a cleaner at the time of her murder.
In a news release, the La Marque Police Department stated:
On January 31, 2023, at approximately 5:00 p.m., La Marque Police Department was contacted in reference to a female discovered in a new construction, vacant residence located in the 1300 block of Green Jay, in La Marque. La Marque Police Department Patrol Officers responded and discovered a deceased female. The female was found to have been a victim of an assault and the incident is being investigated as a homicide.
Lara-Balcazar has been charged with tampering with evidence and first-degree murder. He is currently being held at the Galveston County Jail on $249,000 bail and an ICE detainer.
