BUCKEYE, AZ - On Saturday, a sheriff’s deputy arrested Fernando Ramos, 39, after he reportedly hit a man on a bicycle and sped away from the scene.
The stop was made about 10 miles from the crash scene, near the intersection on Jackrabbit Trail near Beloat Road.
Ramos, who police determined was driving his Chevrolet Avalanche 60 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone, when he hit the bicyclist.
The victim, 60-year-old George Cooper, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver admitted he had been involved in a crash and was taken into custody, according to court documents…Ramos reportedly told them he didn’t see the bicycle until the last moment and couldn’t stop in time. According to the report, Ramos said he panicked following the collision and that’s why he drove away.
Ramos was charged with manslaughter and hit-and-run. He is currently being held without bond at the Maricopa County Jail.
The illegal alien was previously convicted of aggravated assault and DUI, according to the sheriff’s office.
