Democrats Want DACA Recipients Eligible For Taxpayer-Insured Home Loans!

On March 29, 2023, Congressmen Pete Aguilar (D-CA) and Juan Vargas (D-CA) co-sponsored a bill to make it easier for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, or so-called 'DREAMERS,' to qualify for home loans in the United States.

Under the Homeownership for Dreamers Act, DACA recipients would be eligible for Federal Housing Administration (FHA) home loans, loans backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac, and Rural Housing home loans.

In a press release, Rep. Aguilar stated:

Dreamers and their families are key members of our communities and should have the same opportunities to become homeowners as any other American. I’m proud to partner with Rep. Vargas on legislation to codify this policy so that Dreamers can utilize FHA loans, and I look forward to working with him and the Biden Administration to make sure this bill becomes law.

However, the legislation is rooted more in symbolism, rather than in substance, as the FHA under the then-incoming Biden administration announced on January 19, 2021 that DACA recipients would be eligible for FHA-backed mortgages.

At a time when millions of Americans are facing the real possibility of losing their homes due to the worst economy this country has experienced since the 1930s, many of those who came to this country illegally are now being offered home loans, backed by the beleaguered taxpayers.

Only in America!
