Media Blackout: African 'Migrant' Accused Of Nearly 70 Armed Robberies In California

LOS ANGELES, CA - On September 23, following another armed robbery, police arrested Charles Chukwuma Onwuemelie, 29, at his residence in Quartz Hill. A search turned up a great deal of evidence linking the suspect to dozens of other robberies, including a handgun, according to police.

Onwuemelie is believed to have committed a total of 68 armed robberies since October 2021. All of the crimes took place throughout Los Angeles County, including many within the city of Los Angeles.

In a news release, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated:

During their investigation, RHD (Robbery-Homicide Division) detectives discovered that the suspect commonly used a blue cloth to cover the handgun used in the robberies that occurred at gas stations, 7-11s and Walmarts. The suspect would conceal himself by wearing different hats, a face mask, and rubber gloves. The same vehicle was used in many of the robberies, and the same suspect was linked to the robberies based on several factors.

Onwuemelie was charged with 16 counts of armed robbery and is currently being held at LAPD’s North County Correctional Facility on $1.4 million bail.

The 16 robberies for which he is currently charged took place within the city of Los Angeles, many more charges are expected to be filed in the coming weeks.

Onwuemelie is a Nigerian national, who three months ago, held a “lavish wedding” when he married his former Catholic Confirmation instructor, according to Nigerian Wire NGR.
