Rodriguez-Ayala was booked into the Cumberland County Jail on $30,000 bail. So, if he can come up with $3,000 (10 percent of his bail) to pay to a bail-bonding service, Cumberland County Sheriff Ennis Wright will simply release him back into the community, despite his illegal status.
On November 6, 2018, Ennis Wright was first elected Cumberland County Sheriff and soon implemented a ‘sanctuary policy,’ refusing to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Rather than honoring ICE detainers, Cumberland County deputies are now forced to simply release illegal aliens back onto the streets, when they make bail.
Ennis is one of several so-called 'sanctuary sheriffs' throughout the state of North Carolina, all elected within a year of each other. All are making the entire state more dangerous.
