MIAMI, FL - On January 7, police arrested Marwan Habib, 32, after he reportedly followed a woman back to her hotel, and sexually assaulted her.
Habib saw the woman in a nightclub and followed her back to the Hotel Victor, and was able to fraudulently obtain a key card to the woman’s room from a front desk clerk, according to police.
He then reportedly let himself into the victim’s hotel room and sexually abused her.
The suspect is a Lebanese national and has a long history of sexually harassing and assaulting women in his home country.
At least 50 women have come forward and given testimony as to being raped and assaulted by Habib. Apparently, he was able to successfully elude police before boarding a plane to the United States.
The Arab News reported:
“He followed me into the showers after my boxing lessons and tried to corner me in one of the shower stalls. I pushed him out and filed a complaint,” read one.
“I saw him during the thawra (protests) and he tried to convince me to go with him for lunch and stuff when I told him I'm ONLY 15,” another revealed. “I'm a minor. He said he likes young girls. I ran away from him and he kept following me until I threatened to call the police. When I did call them, they did absolutely nothing.”
Habib has been charged with burglary with assault/battery, and is currently being held at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on an ICE detainer.
Detectives with the Miami Police Department are currently investing multiple complaints against Habib from other women who claim they have been sexually assaulted by the suspect as well.
*It remains to be seen exactly how someone with a long history of sexual predation was able to secure a visa to enter this country.
