Jamaican Woman Tried To Kill Elderly Man After Sham Marriage Was Exposed

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - On Thursday, Olivia Raimo, 30, was sentenced to prison in a Westchester County Courtroom, after pleading guilty to attempted murder in November.

On January 24, 2020, Raimo pinned her 74-year-old husband between the toilet and the wall inside his bathroom, then slit both of his wrists with a straight razor, according to the district attorney.

Fortunately, the elderly man’s home health worker arrived during the ordeal, but Raimo refused to let him inside the apartment. He immediately called police and the victim was transported to nearby Jacobi Hospital, where he underwent two surgeries.

As a result of his wounds, the man permanently lost the use of one of his hands.

Raimo attacked the man because she was angry after discovering that immigration officials would likely to discover that the Jamaican national’s marriage with the older gentleman was merely a ploy to avoid deportation.

In a press release, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office stated:

Raimo and the victim married in 2017. The incident happened after Raimo, who was not a citizen of the United States, and the victim met with an attorney to prepare for an interview with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to demonstrate their marriage was legitimate. During the meeting, they were informed that they would have a hard time passing their marriage interview.
New Rochelle Police arrested Raimo on Feb. 11, 2020, following an investigation.

Judge Barry Warhit sentenced Raimo to 15 years in a New York state prison.
