Illegal Alien Charged With Murder Of High School Student In New Jersey

MAPLEWOOD, NJ - On August 6, police arrested Yohan Hernandez, 20, following an investigation into the shooting death of 18-year-old high school student, Moussa Fofana.


On the night of June 6, 2021, Fofana was shot to death at the Underhill Sports Complex, where the standout soccer player spent countless hours practicing and playing the sport he loved.


Last week, Hernandez was formally arraigned.

Hernandez at times gazed upwards towards the ceiling as he appeared over Zoom from the Essex County jail. He used a Spanish-speaking interpreter to follow the proceeding, but did not speak.

The illegal alien has admitted to the fatal shooting, according to court documents.


“The defendant claimed that after he shot, he put a gun on a table and another individual who he could not recall, picked up the gun and continued shooting,” stated Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Austin Edwards.


Hernandez has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is currently being held in the Essex County Jail on an ICE Hold.


*Hernandez is in the country illegally from Ecuador, according to police.
