Colorado Church Protects Illegal Alien Charged With Raping Child

Updated: Mar 12, 2023

DENVER, CO - Following months on the run, Diego Marroquin, 36, was arrested in Texas and has been extradited back to Colorado.

Marroquin fled the state after he reportedly raped a 13-year-old girl inside St. John’s Church, where the illegal alien was employed as the music director. The sexual assault took place in May 2022, according to court documents.

Three months after the rape, the victim told her parents about the ordeal.

They quickly informed the church and the response they received was shocking.

Aaron Vandam, the girl's father reported:

We were treated as guilty…We were completely ostracized. We were treated as if we were the bad people.

Pastor Andrew Farhat left multiple voicemails on the Vandams’ phone accusing them of lying.

CBS News Colorado reported the text of one of those messages from Farhat:

Nothing bad happened..I knew it was a lie so I wanted to squash it right away so that no one would think that the police need to be involved. Now we're protecting victims of slander, don't want that at our school.

In fact, Farhat kept the Honduran national employed at St. John’s Church and School.

Once the arrest warrant was issued in November, Marroquin fled to Texas.

Marroquin was charged with sexual assault of a child under the age of 15. He was booked into the Denver County Jail and as Denver is a ‘sanctuary city,’ he was released on bail.

The illegal alien’s next court appearance is scheduled for March.
