YUMA, Arizona — Approximately 400 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated value of $200,000, was taken off the streets in separate incidents yesterday thanks to the efforts of Yuma Sector Border Patrol Agents.
Late Thursday evening, Border Patrol agents recovered a go-kart that illegally crossed the U.S. border along the Colorado River, after its driver attempted to elude pursuing agents. After a brief chase, the driver bailed out of the go-kart and absconded back to Mexico.
Agents immediately secured the go-kart, and discovered 203 pounds of marijuana stuffed and strapped inside the vehicle. Agents say the estimated value of the load is $101,500.
Earlier in the day, a Border Patrol canine unit seized 195 pounds of marijuana discovered in the trunk of a vehicle traveling through the Highway 95 checkpoint. The estimated value of the drugs was$97,500.
