ASHEBORO, NC (WXXI) – A North Carolina man is behind bars, accused of attempted murder, after police in Asheboro say he fired a gun at the Rey Azteca Nightclub early Sunday morning.
Officers were called around 1:47 a.m. to North Fayetteville Street for a man firing a gun.
Around 2 a.m., Asheboro police found the suspect, identified as Gilberto Rivas, 37, laying in the woods near the event center, armed with .45 caliber handgun.
Authorities say Rivas was arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm with a felon, terrorizing the public, shooting into an occupied building, and possession of cocaine.
Detectives say Rivas fired multiple shots. The only injury was a small abrasion from a bullet grazing someone’s arm, according to police.
Rivas is being held at Randolph County jail on $1,000,000 bond.
