Indian National Wanted For Murder Captured In New Mexico

LAS CRUCES, NM (The Las Cruces Sun-News) – A man wanted in connection to a shooting death in Texas was arrested Thursday at Border Patrol checkpoint near Las Cruces, officials said.

Sayantan Ghose, 41, was arrested at the immigration checkpoint on Interstate 10, west of Las Cruces, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Authorities said Ghose was driving a 2011 Toyota Corolla when he entered the inspection area. Through vehicle inspection technology, agents determined the license plate on the vehicle matched an alert related to a possible homicide in League City, Texas.

Officials said during a secondary inspection of Ghose’s vehicle, agents found a box with two empty pistol magazines but no weapon.

Officials said agents learned that Ghose was wanted for questioning in connection to a double-shooting Wednesday night that left one man dead and a woman injured in League City.

Ghose told agents that he had been assaulted and the shooting was in self-defense.

New Mexico State Police took custody of Ghose, who is awaiting extradition and possible criminal charges.
