PRESIDIO, TX (WNCN) – A man wanted in connection with a double homicide in Durham on New Year’s Day was arrested in Texas on Tuesday, according to a press release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Jose Manuel Regino-Vargas, 20, attempted to cross the border into Mexico on Tuesday around 9:35 p.m. He was a passenger in a vehicle traveling south. His name came back positive in the National Crime Information Center database, the release said.

Fingerprinting confirmed a match on the warrant out for Regino-Vargas’ arrest.

Regino-Vargas is being held in the Brewster County Jail in Texas and is awaiting extradition, the release said.

Regino-Vargas is charged with two counts of murder in connection to the deaths of 24-year-old Murilio Zurito Domingo and 26-year-old Bertin Vasquez Mendoza. Both victims were found lying outside dead along the 2000 block of House Avenue, police said.

Jonathan Cabrera, 18, of Durham, is charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of murder. He posted a $50,000 bond and has been released from jail.
