GOLDSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A Wayne County man got into a fight that was broken up by bystanders, but returned later and fatally shot a man on Saturday, the Goldsboro Police Department said.
The shooting happened on Saturday morning at Ash Street Service Center at 3503 East Ash Street, police said.
When police arrived, they found Hubaner Roberto Morales-Morales, age 22, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the shooting was spurred by a fight between the victim and another man, Valentin Morales Morales, earlier in the day.
“…a physical altercation broke out between the victim and suspect. The altercation was broken up by bystanders and the suspect walked off,” police said in a press release.
“ The suspect at some point returned and shot the victim,” police added.
Valentin Morales-Morales, age 32, who last lived in the 100 block of Spring Drive in Dudley, fled in his car after the shooting, police said.
He was found in Stantonsburg, N.C. at a convenience store and was taken into custody by Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies around 5:20 p.m. Saturday, officials said.
Valentin Morales-Morales was taken to the Wayne County Magistrates Office and served with a warrant for an open count of murder, police said.
He was placed in the Wayne County Jail without a bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday in courtroom number three.
