NEWTON, NC – A man pleaded guilty to sexual offense charges with a 12-year-old girl in Catawba County Superior Court on Monday, according to a release from the district attorney’s office.
Jose Rodriguez-Basquez, 21, of Newton, pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual offense with a child by an adult and two counts of indecent liberties with a child.
Superior Court Judge Gregory B. Hayes sentenced Rodriguez-Basquez to serve 25 to 35 years in prison. The defendant also will have to register as a sex offender and enroll in a satellite-based monitoring system for the rest of his life.
Newton Police Department investigators found that Rodriguez-Basquez and the victim were caught showering together when her parents returned home from a trip in August 2014.
The defendant and victim met months prior to the incident and had exchanged nude photographs and sexual text messages. They also met on one occasion when inappropriate touching occurred.
Rodriguez-Basquez provided a full confession to investigators during an interview following his arrest.
