HICKORY, NC – On Dec. 21, as her large, close-knit family was preparing to celebrate Christmas, together, Amanda Carson, a mother of 12, was struck by a drunk driver.
Arturo Saucedo Juarez, 36, crossed the center line on Springs Road and slammed head-on into the Carson family vehicle, while her husband, Danny received non life-threatening injuries, Amanda was not so lucky.
Amanda’s injuries were so severe that doctors did not initially give her much of a chance of even surviving more than a few hours. She was placed on a ventilator, and the family prayed.
Sadly, Amanda was pregnant at the time of the crash, and lost the child she carried for 20 weeks.
While Sandra’s husband spends time with her in the Intensive Care Unit, the community has rallied to take care of the Lancaster’s 12 children. The oldest is 21, the youngest is two-years-old.
“The little ones don’t really understand right now,” said Carson. “The older ones have always been responsible. They’ve stepped up and taken on adult responsibilities.”
Fortunately, Amanda is going to survive, but it will be a very long and painful recovery. She has already undergone multiple surgeries, and will have to endure many more.
North Carolina State Troopers took Juarez into custody. He has been charged with felony serious injury by vehicle and involuntary manslaughter of an unborn child.
Juarez is currently being held at the Catawba County Jail on $400,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 12.
Due to the physical and mental trauma of the wreck, and in order to spend time with Amanda, Danny is not currently working. Also, the older children have been forced to leave their jobs in order to take care of their younger siblings.
A GoFundMe page has been started to help with the family’s expenses during this time.
Aside from scant local coverage, this story has received very little media attention, and has been completely ignored it.
Of course, such tragic events do not fit their “they’re only here to work” agenda.
The fact is that open-borders kill. Period.
