KNIGHTDALE, NC (WRAL) – One person died early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 near Knightdale, officials said.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. when Jose Maravilla, 25, of Salemburg, fell asleep while driving a 2004 Ford van. Maravilla ran off the road to the left, over corrected and ran off the road to the right.
Troopers said the van overturned on the Hodge Road ramp, killing Edwin Luis Ponce, 27, of Clayton. Ponce was not restrained at the time of the crash.
Maravilla and two other passengers were taken to WakeMed to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Maravilla was charged with driving while license revoked and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
