SCOTTSDALE, AZ (The Arizona Republic) – Scottsdale police announced the arrest of a suspect in the 2015 hit-and-run death of Dr. Robert Arceci, a researcher and caregiver who was killed when a landscape truck turned in front of him while he was riding his motorcycle in Scottsdale.
Ruben Santiago-Lopez, 26, a Mexican citizen, turned himself in Monday at the Nogales port of entry, according to Scottsdale police.
At the time of his death, Arceci was hematology/oncology division chief at Phoenix Children’s Hospital and co-director of the hospital’s Ronald A. Matricaria Institute of Molecular Medicine, which uses genomic medicine to aid children with hard-to-treat cancers.
The crash that killed Arceci, 65, occurred when his motorcycle and a landscape truck collided at 69th Street and Shea Boulevard, police said.
Police investigators said the landscape truck, towing a trailer, turned in front of the motorcycle.
Arceci died at the scene from his injuries.
