SMITHFIELD, NC – Methamphetamine with a street value in excess of $2,200 was seized from an SUV during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon in Smithfield.
Around 2:00pm, a Smithfield police officer stopped a 1996 Chevy Tahoe in the 800 block of South Third Street. A drug K9 alerted on the vehicle during the traffic stop, according to Police Captain R.K. Powell.
During a search of the vehicle, 22.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine was found in the console of the SUV, Captain Powell said.Officers also said they seized $696 in cash, a cell phone and a digital scale.
Edgar Mauricio Mejano Aleman, 31, of Charlie Road, Four Oaks was arrested. Aleman was charged with felony possession with intent to sell or deliver methamphetamines, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police also impounded the SUV. Aleman was booked into the Johnston County Jail under a $35,000bond.
