Illegal Alien Crashes Stolen Vehicle Into Two Police Cars

GLODSBORO, NC (WRAL) – A man wanted on several outstanding warrants rammed a stolen truck into two Goldsboro Police Department patrol cars late Tuesday as police were trying to take him into custody, police said.

First Choice Bail Bonding called police shortly before 11:30 p.m. to inform officers that a wanted man, who had previously threatened employees of the bonding company, was in a truck in the Walmart parking lot at 2908 U.S. Highway 70 West, police said.

Goldsboro police officers and Wayne County deputies found Edwin Luis Ortiz Jr. asleep in the truck, and when he was awakened, he locked the trucks doors, started the engine and refused to comply with police demands to surrender, police said. He then accelerated and crashed the truck into two patrol cars, neither of which was occupied, police said.

Officers then took Ortiz into custody and took him to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment of a cut he suffered as he was being pulled from the truck.

Ortiz, 30, of 1203 Ben Brewington Court in Goldsboro, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon against a government official; resisting, delaying and obstruct an officer; possession of a stolen vehicle and careless and reckless driving. He also was served with outstanding warrants from Duplin County charging him with felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods and an outstanding warrant from Wayne County regarding a misdemeanor probation violation.

He was being held in the Wayne County jail under a $180,000 bond.
