CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB) – A pick-up trucker is charged and a motorcyclist is dead after an accident occurred in East Charlotte on Sunday night.
Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were called around 9:43 p.m. to the intersection of Central Avenue and Lansdale Drive where they located a 2004 Kawasaki ZX636-B motorcycle and a 2005 Chevrolet pick-up truck that had been involved in a crash.
Medics arrived on scene and and pronounced the motorcyclist, 47-year-old Miguel Angel Linarte Jacome, dead on scene. His family has been notified of his death.
The driver of the truck, 37-year-old Jose Rodrigo Barajas Diaz, suffered no injuries and remained on scene.
Police say the motorcycle was traveling outbound on Central Avenue when the pick-up truck made a U-turn from the inbound lanes of Central Avenue into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle then struck the right front side of the pick-up truck.
After an investigation, Barajas Diaz was charged with felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, open container after consuming, no operator license and safe movement violation.
The crash is still under investigation.
