NEW YORK CITY, NY (The New York Post) – A former Manhattan bank worker who killed his girlfriend’s dog and then shoved the body down a building garbage chute pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated cruelty to animals and will serve 30 days in jail before being deported to China.
Zheheng Feng, 24, who showed up to his hearing at Manhattan Criminal Court in an olive green pea coat, had volunteered at a local animal shelter out of remorse, his lawyer has said.
Judge Laura Ward noted Feng’s effort at showing he was sorry for the May 26 crime. Still, Ward told him, “I feel some jail time is warranted because it is a heinous crime.”
Feng is to be officially sentenced March 26.
Ward said the jail time means Feng will be tossed out of the country, an extra dose of punishment.
“The defendant has spent years obtaining an education in the US and working in the financial industry. He won’t be able to return to the finance industry or the US ever now,” the judge said.
