HIDALGO COUNTY, TX (CBS 4 News) – Border Patrol agents arrested a Mexican sex offender Tuesday near Hidalgo.
Agents arrested Jose Alberto Alvarado-Ramos, 23, a Mexican citizen — and a moderate-risk sex offender registered with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
“The Defendant claims to have illegally entered the United States on November 22, 2016, near Hidalgo, Texas,” according to the federal criminal complaint against him. “Record checks revealed the Defendant was formally Deported/Excluded from the United States on August 27, 2014, through Laredo, Texas.”
On Aug. 31, 2011, Alvarado was convicted of sexual assault of a child, according to the criminal complaint against him. Department of Public Safety lists the victim as a 13-year-old girl.
The Monitor newspaper reported on Alvarado’s arrest in April 2011.
Alamo police arrested Alvarado and another man after receiving a call about a sexual assault.
Alvarado is now charged with illegal re-entry.
Court records don’t list an attorney for Alvarado, who remains in federal custody.
