A Fayetteville man was found guilty of murder Monday for shooting a motorcyclist on Bragg Boulevard in February 2013.

The Cumberland County Superior Court jury started deliberating the fate of Francisco Echeverria late Friday afternoon. A verdict was reached Monday morning.

Echeverria, who had lived in what was then called Cambridge Arms apartments, was convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Craig Morris, a member of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang. Echeverria was sentenced to life in prison without benefit of parole.

Morris, 50, was shot about 2:50 a.m. on Feb. 19, 2013, as he rode his motorcycle on Bragg Boulevard. Fayetteville police said Echeverria and Morris argued earlier in the evening in the parking lot of Carolina Square, a strip center on Bragg Boulevard.

Stephanie Vetter, Morris’ sister from Michigan, has said she was told by friends that Morris was trying to break up the fight.

Following the argument, police said Echeverria drove after Morris, a father of four who lived on Anarine Road, and shot him near Sycamore Dairy Road.

Morris was a Marine veteran. Investigators found no indication his death was tied to gangs or motorcycle club rivalries.
