A man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a 2012 double homicide that rocked Rockingham County.
Jose Silvano Alvarez, 28, of Greensboro, was arrested without incident Tuesday afternoon and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, Rockingham County deputies announced Tuesday Night. He was held without bond in the Rockingham County Jail pending a Sept. 10 court appearance.
Douglas Troy French and LaDonna Mosley French were found dead on Feb. 4, 2012, inside a home in the 700 block of Pinewood Road near Reidsville. Their daughter Whitley French, then 19,was treated for a minor cut at a hospital.
Jose Alvarez is the brother of Whitley’s then boyfriend and now husband, deputies said. Prosecutors Released few other details Tuesday night about Alvarez’s arrest, saying the investigation continues.
Deputies previously said they believed the victims were attacked during a home invasion. Whitley Told investigators that she woke to an intruder in her room and screamed for her parents. Deputies linked Douglas French’s missing 9mm gun to the crime. Douglas told family members in December 2011 that he couldn’t find the gun, deputies said.
Deputies previously said the crime likely involved a man with some ties to the family. Deputies said earlier this year that they had been conducting various DNA tests over the past three years.
The state offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in addition to a $1,000 reward offered locally.
