Police have arrested a man suspected of fatally shooting a 25-year-old at a Pleasant Grove tire shop Thursday afternoon.
Officers were dispatched around 3:45 p.m. to Omar’s Wheels and Tires in the 3700 block of South Buckner Boulevard, near Military Parkway, for a shooting call.
Police said Anthony Paz Torres, 30, had driven to the tire shop to pump air in his black Chevrolet Cruz and ask about an employee, according to an arrest affidavit.
Some of the shop’s customers told Torres the employee wasn’t at the shop but that he could use the air, police said.
Torres allegedly walked back to his car, took out a gun and started shooting at the customers as they stood in the front of the tire shop, police said.
Enrique Garcia-Mendoza, who was sitting in a Mitsubishi parked in front of the shop, was struck and died immediately. One other person was shot in the chest and was listed in critical condition early Friday.
Several others had minor injuries.
An employee at the shop fired back at Torres as he tried to flee, police said. Someone followed Torres’ car and got its license plate number.
Police later found Torres, who had apparently been shot several times, at Baylor University Medical Center.
