Group Of Illegal Aliens Charged With String Of Robberies In Denver

DENVER, CO (The Denver Post) – Denver prosecutors have charged four men accused of participating in two bank heists and robbing several businesses, including an adult entertainment shop, with felonies including aggravated robbery and kidnapping.

The defendants are variously alleged to have been involved in five robberies and one attempted robbery that occurred in May and June this year, according to a news release Monday from the Denver district attorney’s office.

Alfredo Ray Garcia, 48, faces 44 counts, including violation of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act, one count of second-degree kidnapping and 12 counts of aggravated robbery.

Garcia is in custody in New Mexico, where he was arrested earlier this month on a Colorado Department of Corrections warrant.

Celestino Mendoza, 39, faces 40 counts, including violation of COCCA, second-degree kidnapping, aggravated robbery and 14 counts of crimes of violence. Mendoza was charged on July 27. Mendoza is in the Department of Corrections in Crowley County.

Angelito Arechiga, 21, and his cousin Louis Arechiga, 19, are each charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of crime of violence. Both are in custody in the Denver city jail.

Garcia and Mendoza, who allegedly left a halfway house without authorization, face escape charges as well.

The spree began on May 23, with the robbery of a Community Banks of Colorado branch in the 3400 block of W. 32ndAvenue. The Arechigas and Garcia are suspected in that robbery.

That was followed by the June 6 robbery of the Premier Insurance Group in the 200 block of S. Sheridan Boulevard. Garcia and Mendoza are suspected of carrying that out together.

On June 9, there was an attempted robbery of a KFC store in the 1600 block of N. Federal Boulevard. Garcia and Mendoza are also suspected in that attempt.

On June 12, the target was a Cricket store in the 2700 block of W. Alameda Avenue. Garcia and Mendoza are the suspects.

On June 13 Garcia and Mendoza allegedly robbed a Pleasures store in the 3200 block of W. Alameda Avenue.

On the following day, the two allegedly robbed a BBVA Compass Bank branch in the 3800 block of W. 32nd Avenue.

At the time of the Compass Bank robbery, investigators said three men were involved.
