HIDALGO COUNTY, TX (CBS News 4) – Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested a 29-year-old Mexican man on Monday in connection to a crash in La Blanca that killed a 2-year-old boy, according to a news release.
Justice of the Peace Jesus E. Morales charged 29-year-old Ruben Hernandez, a Mexican citizen living in Edinburg, with intoxication manslaughter, and three counts of intoxication assault.
Morales set bond at $1 million.
Hernandez is accused of driving a Ford passenger car that hit a Nissan SUV head-on on Farm-to-Market Road 1925 near Farm-to-Market Road 493 on June 18, as CBS 4 News previously reported.
Occupants of the Nissan SUV–a man, woman and two boys– were transported to a local hospital after the crash.
Two-year-old Acel Cuellar of Pharr later died at the hospital, according to the news release.
The man and woman remain in stable condition at a local hospital, and the second boy has been released, according to the news release.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers continue to investigate the crash.
