The Idaho State Journal

FRANKLIN COUNTY, ID — A 34-year-old illegal immigrant pleaded guilty to trafficking in heroin last month and is due to be sentenced Oct. 29.

Franklin County Prosecutor Vic Pearson said Andres Avila was arrested on April 8 following a traffic stop by Idaho State Police. During that investigation, police found 98 grams of heroin.

Avila pleaded guilty to the charge on Sept. 8, and he’ll be sentenced in front of Sixth District Judge Mitchell Brown later this month.

The prosecutor recommended a minimum 10-year prison term and a $15,000 fine be imposed in the case.

Pearson said Avila will be deported after he serves his sentence in Idaho.

He is being held in the Caribou County Jail without bond.
