LIVINGSTON COUNTY, NY (WND) – An illegal alien from Latin America has been arrested in Geneseo, New York, and charged with repeatedly raping a 12-year-old girl, according to local news reports.
Fernando Alvarado-Perez, 37, allegedly forced himself upon the girl multiple times when she was between the ages of 12 and 13, Livingston County News reports.
Alvarado-Perez told officers he came to the United States illegally 10 years ago.
The Department of Homeland Security has issued an immigration hold on Alvarado-Perez, who is being held in the Livingston County Jail without bail.
He faces multiple charges of rape, criminal sex act in the second degree, and four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, WHEC.com reports.
Both WHEC and the Livingston County News described Alvarado-Perez as a “Geneseo man,” as though he were a legal resident of their community.
The last time an illegal alien was arrested in Geneseo, in that case involving a traffic stop for speeding in which the driver was unlicensed, it made statewide news on March 23 and resulted in protests in Rochester and other cities.
So this time, the town’s police chief made a point of downplaying his department’s interest in that aspect of the case against alleged rapist Alvarado-Perez.
“Our officers were concerned about investigating this incident and assisting the family the best we could with referral services to other agencies,” wrote Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian in an email Monday to the Livingston County News. “His immigration status wasn’t a priority for us.”
