LUMBERTON, NC (The Robesonian) – A St. Pauls man has been arrested and charged with engaging in sex acts with a 12-year-old girl, according to a county Sheriff’s Office captain.
Jorge Perez Cruz, 28, was charged Sunday with statutory rape of a child by an adult, indecent liberties with a child and communicating threats, Capt. Brian Duckworth said. He was jailed at the Robeson County Detention Center and placed under a $100,000 bond.
“There may be more charges as the investigation continues and if more victims come forward,” Duckworth said.
Deputies responded about 10:56 p.m. Sunday to a call from the Brisson Road area of St. Pauls, Duckworth said. The victim’s mother caught a man in the act of taking indecent liberties with the victim. The man threatened the mother after being caught.
The investigation led to Perez being charged with statutory rape by an adult on a minor under the age of 13 in connection with a separate incident, Duckworth said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Detective Kevin Hickman, of the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit, at 910-671-3140.
