LEE’S SUMMIT, MO (KSHB) – A former Lee’s Summit teacher faces charges after he is accused of having sexual relations with a student.

Zhiyang Ji, who taught Chinese at Lee’s Summit North High School, faces two counts of second-degree statutory sodomy.

Ji, who is 25 years old, admitted to investigators that he met with a student outside of school on several occasions and performed oral sex on the student, according to a probable cause statement.

The victim also told investigators about meeting Ji outside of school several times, including three to four incidents at Ji’s home. Ji admitted to sending a nude photograph to the victim, according to the investigation.

Ji said that the Lee’s Summit North Assistant Principal Tim Collins confronted him about rumors surrounding his involvement with a student and told him to keep tutoring sessions inside the school.

Ji told investigators he had been living in the United States for five years and began working in the Lee’s Summit School district in August 2016. He’s currently on a work visa from China.

The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District sent the following statement to 41 Action News.

The Lee’s Summit School District is aware of criminal charges that have been filed against a former teacher in the school district.

Because of our desire to protect the privacy of our students, because this is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, and because we do not comment on individual personnel actions, we are unable to provide further details regarding this matter.

However, the school district takes allegations of this nature very seriously, and took immediate corrective action upon learning of them. Nothing is more important than the safety and welfare of our students.
