YADKIN COUNTY, NC (The Winston-Salem Journal) – Authorities charged a Hamptonville man with attempted first-degree murder in the stabbing of another man early Sunday, the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
About 1 a.m. Sunday, Yadkin County dispatchers received a 911 call from Salvadore Velasquez, who said he had been stabbed. Using the open phone line and digital mapping technology, dispatchers were able to guide officers to Velasquez’s location, which was in thick underbrush near a wooded area.
Velasquez was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where he was stabilized and placed in the trauma intensive care unit, officials said.
Deputies identified 28-year-old Victor Manuel Guerrero Herrera as a possible suspect. After executing a search warrant on Joel Drive in Hamptonville, deputies charged with Herrera with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and damage to real property.
Herrera is being held in the Yadkin County Jail under a $400,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court July 18.
